Im dritten Teil der „The Fast and the Furious“-Reihe stehen waghalsige Drift-Rennen im Vordergrund. Das Spin-off behandelt dabei erstmals nicht die Geschichte von Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), der nur einen Kurzauftritt hat. Stattdessen steht der junge Rennfahrer Shaun Boswell (Lucas Black) im Mittelpunkt, der sich unwissentlich mit der Yakuza anlegt. Bald geht es nicht mehr nur darum, wer den Titel „Drift King“ tragen darf. Für Sean beginnt eine atemlose Hetzjagd durch die Straßen des nächtlichen Tokios.
